I am obsessed with Kristen Bell's seven-bedroom Hollywood party house in this month's InStyle. I have loved the the 28-year-old star ever since her days as a crime fighter on Veronica Mars, and lately, in addition to filming Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and being the voice of Gossip Girl (XOXO), she has also been updating and decorating her party-perfect home. She started with her kitchen, updating the countertops and brightening the room with white cabinets.

Next added shelving to her dining room to display her dishes. Her dining room table expands to hold 14 people--which is perfect because Bell says she almost always have roommates in her large house. Right now she has three!

Kristen loves her bedroom. She says that it feels like her own private apartment with in her big, crazy house. She used an elegant floral print wallpaper on the largest wall in her room, which gives it a painted on feel.

But my favorite part about her house is the outdoor living room. As someone who lives in a small condo with a tiny cement patio, I totally envy her huge lawn, cool outdoor furniture and bright, fun pillows. I would spend the entire summer laying on this couch with a great book. Or, Kristen, if you read this I would love to come over for a BBQ!

Happy hour get-togethers are one of my favorite things about summer. With the heat finally letting up a bit (at least for a few days here in Birmingham), I think it's the perfect time for a cocktail party on the porch. I love to have friends over and one of the great things about this time of year is the end of summer's lazy, casual feel. You don't have to make things too complicated: at a recent party I went to, the hostess made centerpieces out of some empty bottles and pretty, colorful flowers and leaves.

Also, don't stress yourself out (and create a monster budget) by stocking a huge bar for the party--instead offer a signature drink. Mix things up by serving the cocktails in different bar glasses--margarita, martini, and champagne. Your guests can personalize their glasses with fruit garnishes such as apple slices, cherries, and small plums.

Happyhour

Cooking does not come naturally to me, so I am a strict recipe-follower. Some of my favorite easy party appetizers pair well with cocktails: guacamole, tasty tarts, and the always popular spinach and artichoke dip. Okay, maybe not the last one as much, but who doesn't love that dip?

Antique enthusiasts around the southeast will soon be heading to Cumming, GA and the new Lakewood 400 Antiques Market to search for the coolest new (old) items for their home. The market, which is housed in a 75,000-square-foot building and features 180 vendors, takes the place of the old Lakewood Antiques Market that lived on the south side of Atlanta for 20 years. The market features everything from replicas of old bars:

to vintage lamps and signs:

Here are some things to keep in mind when antique shopping:
-Have an idea of what you are looking for, and bring along any necessary measurments.
-Make a plan when you get there; get a site map and mark what booths you want to visit.
-Bring cash and checks--most vendors don't take credit cards.
-Learn how to spot a fake.

Learn more about the Lakewood 400 Antiques Market and see pictures of some of the great antique finds.

I am all for changing things up in order to make things interesting. Hair style getting boring? Do what I did in college and get a drastic 11-inch "trim" (and then donate the hair to Locks of Love). Or as I did more recently, dye it a new color. Since I've done all I can to my hair, I'm daydreaming about changing a few things around in my house. Thank goodness I got the Apartment Therapy newsletter today which featured the new Sherwin Williams EasyChange Wallpaper line. This wallpaper promises to be "environmentally friendly, dimensionally stable, and fully washable" and best of all they say that you can "remove simply by pulling off the wall - no special tools or solvents needed". As someone who remembers their parents struggling for hours with steamers, scrapers, and chisels in the olden days (ah, the 80s) this seems like a dream come true. I can do more with my walls than simply paint them one color. Some of my favorites patterns include:

I love the flat screen TVs that have come out in the last few years--the quality of the picture is amazing and they have such a cool, sleek and modern look. While they can totally go with the feel of many rooms, sometimes having a large TV front and center just doesn't work with a room's overall aesthetic. Leave it to Martha Stewart and Blueprint to come up with a totally creative way hide the TV while displaying your favorite fabric:

They even have instructions for making the TV cover. I think this is so smart--put the fabric hood over the TV when you have guests over and want the focus to be on the room, the people, and the party and when it's time for Lost simply remove the cover. This makes me want to go out and finally buy that 42-inch flat screen I've had my eye on. In good time. For now, I'm going to rely on these other tricks to hiding the smaller and wider TV that takes up space at my house: How to Hide the TV, Hide the TV (or Don't)

One of my roommates is moving to California and although I am incredibly sad to lose her I am excited to gain her queen-sized mattress set. The hand-me-down, full bed set that I got from my grandparents five years ago is headed for the guest bedroom and now I'm on a quest to find a new headboard for the mattress. These are some of my favorites:

So far the top bed frame is winning, but I'm still searching. Check out some other great beds--this one's my favorite.

I went shopping around town this weekend and I finally found everything I wanted for my bathroom. After scouring TJ Maxx's entire homes department (and a few clearance racks for clothes for work) I decided on the art, towels and accessories that would finally complete my bathroom. My first thought was that the main room in the bathroom needed a big, bold piece of art to break up the expanse of chocolate brown paint. I was leaning towards a trio of prints featuring exotic plants when I saw this leaning against the end cap of the aisle.

Bathroomaccessories1_3

I don't have any particular attachment to France or the Hotel de La Rive, but when I saw this picture I fell in love. It has the perfect blend of blues and green and looks great on the brown wall. It's definitely a little unique--but it's exactly the kind of thing that I like.

Next, my mom and I headed to check out the towels. The last time I spurgled and bought a whole set of matching towels was in college, so it was definitely time to indulge in matching bath and hand towels. I am so happy with my soft (but not too soft--I hate that) towels.

After months of planning, remodeling and decorating my bathroom is finally finished. What do you think? See more pictures of my bathroom.

1808349bathroomxl_4 I recently redid the bathroom in my condo. After living with the 70's style green tile for 4 years it was definitely time for a change. Now that I have the layout, funiture, and color scheme of my dreams it is time to accesorize. Unfortunately, everything in this picture had to be returned after the photo shoot, so I'm starting over with blank canvas. I want to complement the brown wall paint with either green or blue towels and some wall art is necessary. Here's hoping that I can make my bathroom as perfect as the photo stylist did for this shoot.
