February 02, 2010Happy Groundhog Day! Even though Phil declares six more weeks of winter, I'm ready for Spring! Living in the South, my tolerance for cold weather is pretty low, and the past three months of snow, sleet, and cloudy skies are about all I can stand. Though I can't really control when Mother Nature decides to release us from winter's cruel hand (am I overreacting?), I can control when it becomes springtime at my house. While flipping through Southern Living's February 2010 issue, I came across this lovely floral display, and I think it's a perfect way to gear up for Spring.

Putting together this charming entryway will be a breeze!
To begin, you'll need:
- A bench, console table, or wide window ledge
- Some assorted vases or recycled glass bottles
- Clippings from your backyard
Southern Living used glass vases from Anthropologie and Peddler's Design, but try these inexpensive options, or scour your local flea market for a deal.
These recycled glass vases from World Market are just $9.99 a piece, and they have the same blue-green tint of the ones from Southern Living.
Ikea has some inexpensive options like the 11" Brunn vase for $19.99 or the 7" for $14.99.
I love the vivid red of Ikea's Salong vase for just $7.99!
This set of three recycled, amber-colored glass pill bottles have a lovely color and vintage charm from Etsy.com for only $10.50!
(Southern Living recommends heavy-bottomed vases to accommodate larger branches. For smaller vases, either add pebbles, sea glass, or floral gems to the bottom of the vase to add weight.)
Once you've gathered your glass vases, clip branches from your backyard, tie them together with garden twine, and arrange!
